About Me

Hi! I'm Christina, and I am a recent graduate from Virginia Tech! I'm in Northern VA now pursuing a degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. I'd like to continue what I learned from the Geography of Wine class I took in Spring of 2012, so I'll be posting about different wines and wine events. I would be very grateful for suggestions, and I'm open to expanding my posts to beer and liquor as well!

Tasting - Robert Mondavi Solaire Pinot Noir

Name: Robert Mondavi Solaire Pinot Noir

Variety: 100% Pinot Noir
Region: Santa Lucia Highlands
Country: United States
Year: 2008
Price: $21
Shop Review: Our Solaire by Robert Mondavi 2008 Pinot Noir shows off deep, complex flavors of black cherry and red raspberries, with hints of rose petal, violet, and red licorice.  A background of smoky cinnamon, vanilla, and five-spice nuances comes from aging in toasted oak barrels.  This wine has a nice weight on the palate with a lush texture and smooth, silky tannins that support the flavors through the lingering finish.
My Review: This ruby red wine has aromas of grapefruit.  Upon tasting it, it seemed out of balance with a bite at the end.  Keeping in mind that I tasted this wine at a blow-out sale, it is quite possible that it was either improperly stored or is past its time.

I had this wine alone without any food.
